Small beach but great views. Sand bar for awhile for kids to play on then drop off happens fairly quick if you go out over 100 feet.
What a beauty spot in Vermont.
Willoughby is a stunningly beautiful lake. The southern and western shores are absolutely pristine. The west side is a series of little private coves with natural trees and shrubs providing privacy and plenty of shade.The water is clear as glass and temperate (by late summer). It is a state park that encompasses almost half the shoreline, and given the size of the lake I estimate this as well over 2 or 3 miles. As is the case with all of Vermont, Willoughby is clothing optional. Most of the naturists on any given day are men (enough said). Nudity is legal throughout VT except where prohibited by local ordinance, which is rare in VT. Flatlanders are constantly lobbying to change this but fortunately VT's "live and let live" attitude still prevails. Caution: In keeping with VT's quirky nature, disrobing in public IS against state law, so be discrete when changing into your birthday suit!
Honestly, the only good thing about the north beach is the view and the crystal clear lake. Other than that, it was not that great for my family vacation. Unfortunately, it was all of the locals and other vacationers that made it bad for me and my family. Parents not watching their children, young adults smoking and drinking heavy, the local young adults doing burn outs on the street in front of the beach, and the roaming dogs. My family and I love lake Willoughby, but we will not be returning to this beach.
